LAKELSE LAKE PROVINCIAL PARK

June 6, 2016  Monday

We are ahead of schedule.  We have about 100 miles to go to Prince Rupert and more than a week before our reservation for the ferry.  We stopped at Lake Lakelse Provincial Park for a couple of days.  What a beautiful place.  It is a rainforest type climate and the forest is hundreds of years old.  It reminds me of the tree people in Lord of the Rings.  There are huge red cedars, western hemlocks, and black cottonwood that were used by the native peoples (called First Nations in Canada) for centuries.  Some of the trees are called “culturally modified”, because the First Nation people cut huge strips of bark to use for things like canoes or baby carriers.  I would think it would kill the tree, but here they stand, hundreds of years later.  An interesting trail around the campground gave many photo ops.
(For pictures see another post when I have figured out how to get pictures from my phone to my computer)
